A Turkish passenger jet has been reportedly diverted to Ireland while flying over the Atlantic after a bomb threat.
The aircraft landed at Shannon airport at around 11.20am on Sunday, after a note containing the threat of a bomb on the plane was found on board.
Turkish Airlines flight TK-34 had left Houston, Texas, at 9.07pm local time on Saturday and was due in Istanbul at around 3.45pm Irish time on Sunday. There were 227 passengers and crew on board the Boeing 777-300.

But while allegations of institutional racism at the Oscars have been big news in Hollywood and around the world, the district of Compton has taken the dearth of black nominees at next month’s Academy Awards personally.
South of downtown Los Angeles, Compton was the home of 1980s gangsta rap and a recent NWA biopic, Straight Outta Compton, is one of the films with a black cast that has been ignored by Academy voters.
“Sure we’ve been mistreated,” said 62-year-old Danny Morrison, lining up for food aid from a local church group. “Compton put out a good movie and we weren’t even nominated. And we’re still crime- and drug-infested, and there’s still prostitution down Long Beach Avenue.”

While the issue of racial discrimination, or racism by exclusion, has dogged the film industry for decades, the issue of how the film industry selects its year-end artistic award-winners has tipped the business, facing significant economic turbulence, into a renewed bout of soul-searching.
Academy Awards president Cheryl Boone Isaacs noted that there were “four or five wonderful movies” featuring black actors that could have been nominated, mentioning Chi-Raq, Concussion, Creed, Beasts of No Nation and Straight Outta Compton.
Before the announcement, Boone Isaacs said she was “heartbroken” at the lack of diversity among this year’s acting nominees. Among the reforms is a plan to dramatically alter the voting body’s racial composition. “The Academy is going to lead and not wait for the industry,” she vowed.

“One good step in a long, complicated journey for people of color + women artist... Shame is a helluva motivator,” tweeted Ava DuVernay, director of last year’s civil rights drama Selma, a film that some felt was unfairly passed over by the academy.

British actor David Oyelowo, who spoke out last year after his portrayal of Martin Luther King Jr was ignored by the Academy, added his voice to African-American film industry personalities, including actress Jada Pinkett Smith and director Spike Lee, accusing the body of failing to reflect the racial diversity in the film business or its audience. Charlotte Rampling, herself a nominee, prompted front-page headlines on Saturday by saying that “perhaps black actors did not deserve to make the final list”. She subsequently expressed regret that “her comments could have been misinterpreted”.
Pinkett Smith, who decided to boycott the ceremony on 28 February, has called for black actors to join her protest, a position echoed by Oyelowo.


“It doesn’t reflect me, and it doesn’t reflect this nation,” he said at the King Legacy Awards, one of the dozens of awards ceremonies on the film business calendar.
But some filmgoers wondered if the Oscar protest was simply to keep the campaign for racial justice in the spotlight or if genuine issues of racial injustice were being diverted to the publicity interests of movie stars, the film industry and the awards ceremony that has faced years of criticism for being too low-energy, predictable and self-involved.

“They got the money. What do they want awards for?” said Reggie ‘Snoop’ Parker on Compton Boulevard, an area that is now lightly gentrified and is the focus of renewal efforts by the singer Kendrick Lamar – “Compton, Compton, ain’t no city quite like mine,” he trills on the Dr Dre hit Compton.


“Musicians get awards. Rappers get awards. Sport stars get awards. That’s just how it goes.”
“It’s a non-issue,” agreed Lasheem France, 23, taking a date to a showing of Ride Along 2 with Ice Cube and Kevin Hart. “Don’t take it to heart. People shouldn’t be commenting about this on Entertainment News. They shouldn’t be turning this into a racism thing. It’s just negativity.”
At the same time, France said, he disapproved of comments made by the black Fox News reporter and Clueless star Stacey Dash, who said events that celebrate black history and black awards ceremonies should be abolished in the name of integration. “She’s going against her own kind,” France said.

Others suggest Hollywood should introduce policies similar to those that promote minority candidates for senior staff jobs in American football. But the multiple layers of conflict that have now been exposed may only serve to spotlight how the movie industry is failing to create films with racially diverse casts worthy of nomination.
Pras Michel, a founding member of the Fugees, told the Observer he believed film executives have to be more willing to tell minority stories.


“We’re not just about music and sports. We have a great, diverse history and culture and Academy members don’t reflect what’s going on in America. We have a say in this because we didn’t ask to come here. That’s why we have these issues. That’s why it matters.”
The Academy Awards will be hosted by black comedian Chris Rock. Actor Whoopi Goldberg said boycotting the show was not an option. “To boycott him seems just as bad,” she said.
Organisers are reportedly still looking to recruit big-name black presenters. Music producer Quincy Jones said he had been approached, along with Pharrell Williams and rapper Common. Jones said that he would do it, but only if he were given five minutes to talk about diversity.
The furore has come as the academy has begun a drive towards a more diverse make-up. But given that its members – who vote on the Oscar winners – belong to it for life, demographic changes are difficult to implement quickly. Academy reforms of the past, Boone Isaacs said, had focused on introducing younger members. The mandate of new reforms would include gender, race, ethnicity and sexual orientation.
On Hollywood Boulevard, a lively discussion was under way on the relative merits of awards season.
“If I was rich, I’d ignore that shit,” said Le’Davian Carter. “I mean, fuck that shit. Awards don’t mean nothing. Win an award and you sell your soul.”

Google Inc. is paying Apple Inc. a hefty fee to keep its search bar on the iPhone.
Apple received $1 billion from its rival in 2014, according to a transcript of court proceedings from Oracle Corp.’s copyright lawsuit against Google. The search engine giant has an agreement with Apple that gives the iPhone maker a percentage of the revenue Google generates through the Apple device, an attorney for Oracle said at a Jan. 14 hearing in federal court.
Rumors about how much Google pays Apple to be on the iPhone have circulated for years, but the companies have never publicly disclosed it. Kristin Huguet, a spokeswoman for Apple, and Google spokesman Aaron Stein both declined to comment on the information disclosed in court.
The revenue-sharing agreement reveals the lengths Google must go to keep people using its search tool on mobile devices. It also shows how Apple benefits financially from Google’s advertising-based business model that Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook has criticized as an intrusion of privacy.
Oracle has been fighting Google since 2010 over claims that the search engine company used its Java software without paying for it to develop Android. The showdown has returned to U.S. District Judge William Alsup in San Francisco after a pit stop at the U.S. Supreme Court, where Google lost a bid to derail the case. The damages Oracle now seeks may exceed $1 billion since it expanded its claims to cover newer Android versions.

Annette Hurst, the Oracle attorney who disclosed details of the Google-Apple agreement at last week’s court hearing, said a Google witness questioned during pretrial information said that “at one point in time the revenue share was 34 percent.” It wasn’t clear from the transcript whether that percentage is the amount of revenue kept by Google or paid to Apple.
An attorney for Google objected to the information being disclosed and attempted to have the judge strike the mention of 34 percent from the record.
“That percentage just stated, that should be sealed,” lawyer Robert Van Nest said, according to the transcript. “We are talking hypotheticals here. That’s not a publicly known number.”
The magistrate judge presiding over the hearing later refused Google’s request to block the sensitive information in the transcript from public review. Google then asked Alsup to seal and redact the transcript, saying the disclosure could severely affect its ability to negotiate similar agreements with other companies. Apple joined Google’s request in a separate filing.

‘Highly Sensitive’

“The specific financial terms of Google’s agreement with Apple are highly sensitive to both Google and Apple,” Google said in its Jan. 20 filing. “Both Apple and Google have always treated this information as extremely confidential.”
The transcript vanished without a trace from electronic court records at about 3 p.m. Pacific standard time with no indication that the court ruled on Google’s request to seal it.
The case is Oracle America Inc. v. Google Inc., 10-cv-03561, U.S. District Court, Northern District of California (San Francisco).

MAN SENTENCED TO DEATH BY THE SUPREME COURT.

A man has been sentenced to death by the supreme high court sitting in Abuja.
The man by the name of Chinonso Okeke Okeke was convicted by the Lagos High Court on April 13, 2010 for the offence of conspiracy to commit murder and murder of Ofomatu at her residence in House 18, A Close, Road 403, Festac Town.

He was found guilty of the allegations, convicted and sentenced to death by the Court.

Dissatisfied, Okeke approached the Court of Appeal in Lagos and asked that the judgment of the lower court be upturned.
But the appeal failed as the appellate court dismissed the application.
Again, Okeke took his case before the Supreme Court in Abuja and asked that the judgments of the lower courts be upturned.

In its judgment, the apex court upheld the arguments canvassed by the State Government, and held that the appeal of Nonso Okeke lacked merit.

FC BARCELONA PLAYER SENTENCED TO PRISON!!

FC Barcelona’s Javier Mascherano has pleaded guilty to two counts of tax fraud.

In a hearing that took a little more than ten minutes, Mascherano admitted that he failed to pay taxes on earnings for the years 2011 and 2012. Like many athletes before him, Mascherano’s tax woes can be tied to assigning image rights to companies located in alleged tax havens.

The Argentine footballer had previously not admitted any wrongdoing but did settle an outstanding tax bill by paying €1.5 million ($1.69 million US) in taxes plus €200,000 ($225,860 US) in interest last year.

As punishment, Mascherano was fined €815,000 ($880,078 US) and sentenced to 12 months in prison (four months for the 2011 charges and eight months for the 2012 charges). The prison sentence is largely ceremonial. As a general rule, in Spain, those who are sentenced to light sentences won’t actually serve time unless the offense involves a violent crime or if the defendant is a habitual offender. This is at the discretion of the judge; in Mascherano’s case, the defense has asked that the prison term be suspended in exchange for an additional fine.
After the proceedings, Mascherano (@Mascherano) tweeted to his fans in Spanish and in English, saying “I’m a professional athlete, I have no extensive knowledge of legal and tax issues.” He went on to say that “Throughout my career I was an honest and responsible person, respecting my teammates, the clubs that I represented and countries where I lived.” He referred to the proceedings as an “experience” that has left him stronger.

 ‘Kocktails With Khloe’ debuted on January  and hours after, it led to the one-sided fight between Farrah Abraham and Kendall Jenner.
 Though the feud gained massive attention especially because Abraham said Ray J’s penis made them famous, the show reportedly is not getting the attention it needs to make it grow; the rating is so poor.

According to Bossip, ‘Kocktails With Khloe is already on the ‘chopping block’, due to the reviews it got, and this was because the show wasn’t well publicised, didn’t get attention, and they are having a difficult time getting good guests.
“Khloe is fighting a losing battle with this show,” Bossip quotes a source. “Between the lack of celebrity star power, dismal publicity and her not exactly being the greatest host, things aren’t looking good.”
“Even if she did scrounge up some quality guests, who wants to watch people sit around and drink?” The report continued. “Everyone becomes sloppy and dysfunctional by the end of the show, leaving viewers to question why they turned it on in the first place.”

But the show could do well, Bossip says, if Amber Rose and Blac Chyna are invited for an episode; their combined social media power and accumulated scandals involving their exes, could make people tune in.

JEWS LEAVE FRANCE IN RECORD NUMBERS!

 It's no news that quite a number of Jews have been in killed in Paris.

Nearly 8,000 French Jews moved to Israel in the year following the Charlie Hebdo attack, according to the Jewish Agency, which handles Jewish immigration, or aliyah, to Israel.

The number of French Jews moving to Israel has doubled -- and doubled again -- in the past five years.

In 2013, less than 3,300 French Jews moved to Israel. Only two years earlier, that number stood at 1,900.

Britain has the second-highest Jewish emigration from Western Europe, but the scale is much smaller. According to the Jewish Agency, 774 British Jews moved to Israel in 2015, less than one-tenth the number of French Jews.

Many French Jews settle in Ashdod, a city in southern Israel known for its large French population.

You are as likely to hear French on the streets as you are Hebrew, especially in one of the city's many French cafés.

"It's great for me here, much better than France," says Charly Dahan, a musician who moved to Israel from Paris two years ago.

Dahan sits in Café Lyon, a popular meeting spot for French Jews.

"This is the first time in my life that I am relaxed. In France, I also felt good, but the situation and the current problems... it's very difficult to live as a Jew in France," he adds.

The Jewish Agency says violence is part -- but not all -- of the reason for French immigration.

"While high-profile attacks such as those at the Jewish school in Toulouse in 2012, the Jewish museum in Brussels in 2014, and the kosher supermarket in Paris and the synagogue in Copenhagen last year have certainly been the most vivid instances of violence targeting French and European Jews, the French Jewish community has been living with a deep sense of insecurity for quite some time," says Avi Mayer, spokesman for the Jewish Agency.

Israel's Jewish leaders have always proclaimed that the country will always offer a home to Jews from anywhere in the world.

But what of the places these newcomers have left behind?

French Prime Minister Manuel Valls recently expressed the fear that an exodus of Jews would change the country for the worse.

"Without the Jews, France is no longer France. It's the oldest community. They have been French citizens since the French revolution," he told CNN's Christiane Amanpour.

Thousands of people are showing up for the funeral of Celine Dion's husband, Rene Angelil.

The funeral is being held at Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal, where the couple married in 1994.

Lines stretched around the block of the cathedral Thursday for the public viewing, where Celine stoically greeted a number of mourners.

The funeral is set to start at noon Pacific Time.
