HE SHOULDN'T HAVE ASKED HER OUT, BAD IDEA!!!!

A referee in the Spanish First division is enmeshed in a sexism row after asking a female player on a date during a match. The complaint was made by Elena Pavel, who plays for Sporting Huelva, as she was allegedly the object of sexist treatment from match referee Santiago Quijada Alcon during the match against Santa Teresa.

According to Pavel, referee Alcon approached her and said the following : “Hey brown-hair – let’s get coffee this afternoon.” An infuriated Pavel replied during the game, warning the official – “better stick to blowing your whistle.”

She also suggested to Spanish agency Efe that Alcon was “provoking” her during the encounter. “I’ve stopped believing in football, in fair play,” she said. “I feel helpless, humiliated. In the many years I’ve been playing football I’ve never felt so ashamed.”

However, she didn’t say if Alcon’s officiating became affected afterwards, but the Spanish football federation, RFEF, are said to be investigating the rather strange incident.

This sort of thing has been a growing trend in sports in recent times, as West Indies cricket star Chris Gayle was fined for asking a reporter out during the Australian Big Bash, while a commentator at last year’s Australian Open asked Serena Williams to ‘twirl’ after a game.
